Good Rhubarb is a handmade soap line crafted in the heart of New Hampshire by Emily Hochrein, a proud middle sister who grew up in a tiny town nestled between forest and river. Inspired by the way her mother, Barbara, cared for their home and family (indoors and out) Emily developed a deep appreciation for hard work and the quiet magic of everyday rituals. As a child, she was often found mixing pretend potions from shampoo and lotion bottles in the bathroom or whipping up elaborate imaginary meals during backyard adventures with her sisters and friends—early signs of a maker in the making.

Hochrein pursued a degree in illustration and design which lead her to years working in skincare and wellness while supporting other small business brands. She saw first hand the ins and our of running a small business. Feeling the call to achieve outstanding creative design and a certain level of aesthetic living, mixed with the everyday realties of tending to family and preserving a home, she developed a balance of mindful and meangingful living.

Good Rhubarb was born out of Emily’s love of world building and character development in her illustrations. Each soap is a thoughtful deep dive into color, ingredients to invoke a mood and personality in each soap for the user to explore. Like art in a gallery, once the finished work is seen by the viewer, the story, and soap, is all theirs.

These are high quality soaps that are meant to be used and enjoyed everyday. Small joys to be recognized in simple moments between the realities of living in this modern world. Real soap for real people that is meant to be used. Because we all deserve something nice, not just sometimes—all times.
